 Hello! Now that we semi-finished our editing, we went around our classroom to see what others think about our media! Thankfully, most people like our ideas and execution, but there were a few who gave us some suggestions. 

                                                                            Suggestion #1

The first suggestion we got was that we should include some better music to fit the vibe of our car meet. Originally, we used house, but now we're thinking of using more Eurobeat.

                                                                               Suggestion #2

The second suggestion we got was that in one of our scenes, we missed a part that to some may be obvious to why the next scene happemed, but to others not. Our case was that in the scene where Paulie added the new part he got, he was called to go somewhere and left. There was a montage of him opening the door, revving, and leaving, but we forgot to close his hood (it was open). So we were suggested to add a scene where we close it!

Both of these suggestions were really great, and my team and I will try our hardest to make them work!

 Hello! Mt team and I have been editing my film for a couple of days now, and so far so good! I've added all the foley sounds and made sure everything looked as smooth and talk-show-like as possible!

We've done a lot of layering to make it as seamless and real as possible. We're trying to decide on which foley to use for the racing scene because our mics don't do it justice.

Location scouting

     Hello! In my prior post i talked about the car meet we want to recreate behind the AMC, and while it has everything we need, there's another spot where we can elevate the authenticity of the meet and also start the "race". For starters, our opening scene starts with a "drug" deal in a shadowy alleyway, lucky for us that is also right next to the AMC.

 In this picture, you can see the back of the AMC, which we want to use as a parking lot for all the cars participating in the "race" to stay stationary as a display. there is over 10 parking spots alone in just this picture which is more than enough, all we need is to wait til night time, add some music and we have a good car meet.

    In this next picture, you can see the alleyway we plan on using. This is an earlier picture of the stripmall but now the alleyway is much better because it has LED lights inside, providing us with the good Lowkey lighting we want for the deal.

    For the last location, Felipe offered to show us a location where there's a long and quiet strip of public road that not many people know about. He said that he goes there with his friends often to test out their new parts. Right next to Saddle club is the long road. I was thinking that after we were done shooting at the back of the AMC, we would all go over there for the final shot of the race starting. Once we finish that were all done with the major locations.

Casting

    Hello! As we know, our movie features Paulie (MC) and Jay (his friend/rival). Ale will be playing Paulie, and I will be playing Jay, in our film; those are really the only two characters that actually converse, but in one of the scenes, Paulie goes into a car meet. Unfortunalately we can't just go into a car meet and record, for starters its too loud and uncontrollable, so we settled on making our own make-shift one in the back of our local AMC, where we have both good lighting and space.

         

Now, in order to make a decent-looking car meet, we need cars! I mention prior that we were going to use my buddy's car for the audio, but we plan on also using it as a display for the car meet.

So far, the people I have in mind are my friend Dani (he has a Mk7 GTI Golf) and my other friend Hudson, who has a 2016 Tacoma.

    Now i know that Felipe has some buddies he can call to ask to use their vehicles, but I'm also pretty sure he wants to use his dad's Porsche as well as his Mrk 8. As far as Ale goes, he doesn't have a car, so i doubt he has many friends with cars aswell so i might have to get my sister and her girlfriend Alex to help me out. My sister drives a Mercedes C250 while Alex drives her dad's BMW (I beleive its a 2026 m4)

Scheduling

    Hello! Since I work and Felipe does too, figuring out a schedule where we can all shoot was actually harder than we thought! After school i work 4 days a week, and my shift usually ends at 11 PM, which is too late to film anything, and on the days where im not working, Felipe usually has either his internship at an auto shop or just can't due to homework. The next obvious solution would be weekends, but i since i have to switch houses at the time, it's deemed as impossible due to my dad living in Aventura.

    The next big issue is getting our buddies on board with the time and date of when we are going to shoot the car meet. We need to get everyone in one day, so we have the most accurate looking car meet with a diversity of cars.    

    So know that we have all the variables on the table, my obvious solution was a shared Google calendar where we put our schedules on the days Felipe, Ale, and I would be able to record. This solves only one of the 2 issues. But with my quick thinking i thought about putting all of the people participating in the car meet in a group chat where we all have access to communication with each other. i havnt accually done it yet, but I will next week!

Company logo

    Hello! In general, my team and i havent put much thought into our company's logo yet alone our company itself, until earlier this week. Originally, we thought about using "Fat Snail Productions" i but thought it was a little weird, and the more we thought about it, we all agreed. We ended up going with "Sebas and Friends Production,s" and as silly as it is, it has a ring to it! 

   Now that we figured out and finalized our company's name, we gotta figure out a logo. Ale mentioned wanting it to be "cool, yet slick". Felipe opened up Canva and started designing a logo. I don’t even know why, but he chose a telescope as the main symbol for the logo. It just looked cool and kind of deep. He said the telescope represented “looking into the future” and “seeing bigger possibilities".

    

    Now that we have a vision of what we want, I suggested putting a small circle on the magnifier of the telescope that said "S&F," and everyone thought it was cool. So now all we have to do is finalize the logo, and we're done!

Mise en scene 2

Hello! So if you checked my last post, i talked about the general environment of where and how my team and i were planning on filming. Now i'm going to describe the outfits and props.

Firstly our opening scene is a "drug" deal with a suitcase illegal imported car part. the dealer's going to be wearing like a stereotypical drug dealer trench coat and a fedora. 

And as far as the suitcase with the illigal imported car part i have one of those metal security cases that doesnt have to be proportional to the part, becuse its onlu for a few shots where the case will be shown, and we just put the part right as we open it for the scene.

And as far as the car par goes my friend whom i mentioned prior has a spare Turbo from one of his projects that he offered to let us use.

                                                                    

                                                          

And lastly, as far as outfits go i want to dress the main character by dressing him in street-wear, baggy, skater-boy style because i think that type of style suits his cocky MC vibe. Something like Jinco pants with a hoody. 

                                                                         

Mise en scene

 Hello! For our film project there's certain vibe my team and i are trying to go for so we cant exactly just wear anything for the film. Well firstly our character is living in present times so no robots or anything of that sorts. 

Most shots will be filmed near nighttime to fit the esthetic and behind our local AMC where there is enough space to film cars, illegal deals and car shows.

Music wise id like to go for a Fast and furious sound track copy, as cliche as it is, hip hop and cars go great together. Now in a perfect world i would LOVE to use "DOOMSDAY" By MFdoom but alas that is quite the streach.

I did infact send an email to DOOM@rhymesayers.com because DAYUM if i get MFdoom's music into my film..that would make me the happiest.

Character Development

 Hello! As far as character developement goes as part of the two minute film, not much will happen. BUT, as the film goes on id like to see him humble down a little but remain the same funny, nice guy he is.

When i first think of his charater i think of Jay from LEGO: Ninjago masters of spinjitzu.

Jay is a timid, funny and cocky guy who at the end of the day he just wants to help. Thought the seasons you dive deeper into his story and in some form id like to show that in Shift happens.

After elaborating on Paulies past id like him to acknolage his flaws and try to better himself, wether its finding his second half, winning his cup and or getting the respect he wants.

If we were to continue this film id like it to half a "National Treasure" ending where the main character ends up with his girl in a big house and the funny side character punching bag gets his cool life style he wanted.

Audio

 Hello! Since our film opening is all about cars, getting audio were going to use for our driving scenes is very important. I personally didn't think about the audio until my friend call me out on it because he has experience with recording cars. Luckily my buddy also knows a lot about cars and happens to have a Golf GTI mrk7 with a downpipe and a turbo, what im thinking for our foley sounds we rig up his car with a mic to his exhaust in order to get the most recognizable noises for the audience.

  

Script

 SHIFT HAPPENS 

So for our script we have a decition to make, whether Jay to be Paulie's friend or rival.

In the script i'll show you where the rift will occur

 

Script idea outline 

Paulie (Main character) buys a new car. Then montage of him modifying it. When he is done show that he is happy. Then he is on the way to the car meet/race spot. On the way there is one of those guys that wash the car window and Paulie gets mad since he just washed the car, so he decides to fight the guy. Once he gets to the car meet/ race spot, he finds Jay this cocky guy with a 1999 Porche Boxter. When Paulie parks Jay comes up to him asking what's under da hood. Then we say some goofy names for the car pats instead of the actual names. Then they get ready to race, and Paulie stalls his car like a dan, but it's not over yet because the new super duper cool big fat snail modifications he put give him just the speed he needs to win.  But then the cops pull up, (the cop is gonna be a guy however they will be using a lady cop outfit, and Paulie says” hello sir?!) and he gets arrested. 

 

 

Script Outline Idea condensed:

Paulie (Main character) buys new car performance parts from the black market (he talks to a car part dealer whose name is Mr. Clutch) ( 20 sec).Paulie closing the hood of the car showing that he has installed the part ( 5 sec). Then he is on the way to the car meet/race spot ( 10 sec) . Once he gets to the car meet/ race spot, he finds Jay this cocky guy with a 1999 Porche Boxter. When Paulie parks Jay comes up to him asking what's under da hood (15 sec). Then we say some goofy names for the car pats instead of the actual names (20 sec). Then they get ready to race, and Paulie stalls his car and looking dumb(15 sec).

BACK ALLEY – NIGHT 

Paulie leans casually against his car, arms crossed. He looks calm, like he’s done this before. MR. CLUTCH walks up holding a case. 

PAULIE 

MR. Clutch? 

MR. CLUTCH 

Depends, whos asking 

PAULIE 

Its paul. You got the thing? 

MR. CLUTCH 

-Mr. Clutch opens the case carefully. Inside is a rare looking performance part.  

Original and imported, took me six months to track it down.  

Paulie nods, impressed. 

PAULIE 

This thing better wake the car up. 

MR. CLUTCH 

-walks away 

Paulie smiles.

Paulie tightens the last bolt and closes the hood.

Paulie smirks.

PAULIE

PAULIE

Jay: Save it for the race

Paulie and Jay get into their cars. Someone off screen starts counting. 

GUY THAT COUNTS RACE DOWN 

Three… two… one… 

Paulie launches. 

The car STALLS instantly. 

Dead silence. 

Paulie grips the wheel, annoyed, not panicked. 

PAULIE 

shit shit sh

Project summarization

 Hello! So for our film, we decided on a Fast and furious parady film where it has a straightforward plot but with a ton of nonsense comedy mixed into it. In my previous post, I mentioned SUPERFAST, which is a parody movie on Fast and furious and its is DEFINIATLY our main inspiration by far.

Our film revolves around the main character named Paulie, and his desire to make a name for himself in the car racing world. The film opens up with a blackmarket deal with Paulie and a guy named Mr. Clutch, where Paulie buys a non stated illigal car part, followed by him adding it to his car. Paulie gets a call from his buddy, wondering where he is, at fallowed by Paulie driving over to the car meet/race. Once Paulie gets there,e he has his whole skit with his buddy and finally starts the race, only for him to stall.

Media theory incorperation

Hello! Now that we have a script going for our film opening, I wanted to include the preferred reading theory, which suggests that audiences understand media texts in alignment with the intended, dominant, or hegemonic ideology intended by the creators.  In our script, comedy is a major part of the dialogue, but instead of the typical jokes its more of a "Naked Gun" approach where what the actors say/do is just correct, and they move on. 

For example, our main character says:

PAULIE:

Custom turbo encubobulator. 

Forged mega pistons. 

And a fat snail. 

which is obviously nonsense, but that's just part of the world building were going for.

 The side character is wowed by all his cool gear, and then they just move on. Were hoping that the audience will get and understand that our dialogue is part of the comedic effect and that they don't question it.

Our main inspiration for this skit comes from a scene from the movie SUPERFAST, where they talk a bunch off non sence, but that's only just part of the movie.

Group meeting

Hello! Today Mrs. Stoklosa sat us into groups to discuss our plans regarding our 2 minute film openings. We all discussed our script (if you had them), our concerns and we gave feedback and helpful advice to the ones that wanted it. 

Firstly i kick started the circle by introducing myself and sharing a word document to share our blogs. Then i asked who wanted to go first.

A boy named Gustavo went first; he wanted to make a comedy-spy movie with a continuous plot, but with comedic aspects throughout. His main inspiration was Bullet train due to its comedy and action based plot.

After a bit, I recommended The Naked Gun (2025) with Liam Neeson, which I believe would tie in to what Gustavo was going for. He hasn't watched the movie, so I'm very excited for him to watch it.

I went second and explained my whole car-comedy movie plan, and they all loved it. It was a very quick interaction where everyone was in agreement with my plans, except that near the end, I was told to "not be corny" which i will be taking to heart since I'm most likely to be the main character.

The third film plan had inspiration from a Netflix film called Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, which is also a comedy-action film, but instead of a bullet train type movie its more like The Hangover.

Fourth was Vitor, he wants to make an uncut gems, whip lash type movie where its a  horrible band that  tries to make a big name for themselfs yet they all have issues they need to work on. 

The whole idea for the film is an ambitious band that makes mistates and it all comes back to kick them in the butt. We all had concerns for Vitor because he has soooooo many ideas he wants to fit in WHICH IS GREAT!.. but considering he has to fit it all into 2 minutes worth of film, is quite ambitious. Not only that but for a band film he was to include music, but he actually had that in mind already and told us his cast for his film were already producing the music they were going to use!

And lastly came Lisa whose idea was something like "Juno", a coming of age film where the main character is super lost and has to find her ground to sit on. She's working alone, which brings some conserns but alas she says shes doing perfectly.
